2013 will go down in history for a number of reasons. It was the year Nintendo decided to forgo a traditional E3 press conference. It was Wii U’s first full year on the market. It was the “year of Luigi.” Most importantly, though, it was a year that brought us some fantastic games, particularly on 3DS, which saw some of the best releases, first- and third-party alike, of any console. More than anything, 2013 was a good year to be a Nintendo fan.
With 2014 officially upon us, we thought it would only be fitting to bid farewell to the past year with our own Best of 2013 awards. For the next week, we’ll be highlighting our favorite games of the last 12 months, from the best retail releases for Wii U and 3DS to the finest digital titles in each console’s respective eShop. And since these kinds of awards can never truly be comprehensive, we’ll be capping off the week with a round table of games that didn’t make our lists, but certainly deserved to. With so many candidates to choose from, you can be sure we’ll still have plenty to talk about after the awards are handed out.
Next week, we’ll be turning our gaze to the year ahead and what it might hold in store for our favorite company. But for now, we hope you’ll join us in taking one final look back on all of the fantastic games 2013 had to offer.
