Welcome to NintenDOJO!

After 100 hours of work, I am extremely happy to present to you Nintendojo’s new comic series! I’ve been an avid reader of comic books since I was very young (I mentioned thisĀ the other day), but this is the first time I’ve ever committed to creating one myself. When I say myself, by the way, I genuinely mean every stitch of art and writing. For this inaugural outing, I decided to be really ambitious and do everything by hand. The art is a mixture of marker, colored pencil, and ink, with a touch of computer assistance for word balloons, to fix mistakes, and to amplify a few things where necessary. It’s probably my biggest labor of love to the world of video games, at this point in my life.

So, what is NintenDOJO? It’s all about fights! My absolute favorite part of Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the bevy of beautiful cinema scenes depicting the various team-ups of different characters. With NintenDOJO, I want to build on that concept a little more, in particular by teaming characters we’ll probably never see crossover in a video game. Mario versus Sonic, while not uncommon these days, felt like the perfect starting point, what with this being the launch of Nintendojo’s new direction. In the future, I have plans for Mega Man, Cloud, Link, Samus, Star Fox, and a whole ton of other characters. I want NintenDOJO to be fun, kinetic, and cool!

That’s where you come in, dear readers. I want to hear from the people reading this comic which characters they’d like to see face off! Pop into our comments section and let your voice be heard. The two responses I find most appealing will be selected for future issues and the winners will be rewarded with a physical copy of NintenDOJO #1 to keep as a little thank you for participating! Keep your responses limited to two characters and a brief description of why you’d like them featured. Just don’t suggest anything from Dante’s Inferno!

Before I let you loose to start reading, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Nintendojo, and this feels like sort of a turning point, for me. Video games, Nintendo’s in particular, are one of the great joys in my life, and every day I get to come on here and share that joy with our readers is an awesome gift. Here’s to many more comics and articles to come! Please enjoy the comic, and if it sucks, let me know what you want to make it better!
