Welcome to NintenDOJO!
After 100 hours of work, I am extremely happy to present to you Nintendojo’s new comic series! I’ve been an avid reader of comic books since I was very young (I mentioned thisĀ the other day), but this is the first time I’ve ever committed to creating one myself. When I say myself, by the way, I genuinely mean every stitch of art and writing. For this inaugural outing, I decided to be really ambitious and do everything by hand. The art is a mixture of marker, colored pencil, and ink, with a touch of computer assistance for word balloons, to fix mistakes, and to amplify a few things where necessary. It’s probably my biggest labor of love to the world of video games, at this point in my life.
So, what is NintenDOJO? It’s all about fights! My absolute favorite part of Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the bevy of beautiful cinema scenes depicting the various team-ups of different characters. With NintenDOJO, I want to build on that concept a little more, in particular by teaming characters we’ll probably never see crossover in a video game. Mario versus Sonic, while not uncommon these days, felt like the perfect starting point, what with this being the launch of Nintendojo’s new direction. In the future, I have plans for Mega Man, Cloud, Link, Samus, Star Fox, and a whole ton of other characters. I want NintenDOJO to be fun, kinetic, and cool!
That’s where you come in, dear readers. I want to hear from the people reading this comic which characters they’d like to see face off! Pop into our comments section and let your voice be heard. The two responses I find most appealing will be selected for future issues and the winners will be rewarded with a physical copy of NintenDOJO #1 to keep as a little thank you for participating! Keep your responses limited to two characters and a brief description of why you’d like them featured. Just don’t suggest anything from Dante’s Inferno!
Before I let you loose to start reading, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Nintendojo, and this feels like sort of a turning point, for me. Video games, Nintendo’s in particular, are one of the great joys in my life, and every day I get to come on here and share that joy with our readers is an awesome gift. Here’s to many more comics and articles to come! Please enjoy the comic, and if it sucks, let me know what you want to make it better!
Just gotta say – Well done on this! I think you did an awesome job of the art. Looking forward to more.
Thank you =) You should enter the mini contest and win a copy! The pickings thus far… are slim…
May I suggest Kirby versus Samus Aran? Reasonings – Well, it’s just odd enough to work, isn’t it? Pink puffball versus Bounty hunter?
Great job! Thinking mega man vs samus would be an equal matchup.
Oops reasons, both are futuristic characters with gun arms that get upgrades as they go. Think those worlds would mesh really well
Two entries! Lots of Samus love, too. Let’s hear some more from everyone!
This is fun! Nice work. Since we’re all throwing out more match-up ideas, I’d love to see a visual continuation of your also-very-fun Samus + Star Fox versus Andross + Ridley piece from a while back.

The tone is set, time for some eye-candy action! :^)
Well, folks, let’s give it another day, then I’ll close off entries.
Your colors are amazing, dude!
Thanks, Andrew! I wish the scans looked the way the actual pieces do in real life. Everything is more smooth, blended, and bold. I’m probably going to do something more computery for the next issue.
Alright, thanks for the support, everyone! I’ll be getting in touch with the winners soon to talk shipping details. Since I got three responses total, you’re all winners! Yaaaay! Lol, in all seriousness, thank you for reading.
