The Next Penelope
Another F-Zero-inspired title on the list is The Next Penelope. The game isn’t exclusively based on the ideas of the F-Zero franchise; it also mixes it up with some Star Fox and Micro Machines. The result is very intriguing to say the least. If everything goes smoothly, we’ll soon find out if this hybrid can reach for the stars.
Assault Android Cactus
It’s been a long time since the initial announcement, but this crazy twin-stick shooter should be getting closer to its Wii U release. Personally, I think this is one of the best-looking eShop action games out there. The only serious problem with Assault Android Cactus is that it is not out yet.
’90s Arcade Racer
From the people who to this day shout, “DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAA!” in the shower comes a game for the people who to this day shout, “DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAA!” in the shower. ’90s Arcade Racer wants to take you back to the fun times of the racing genre. No social integration, no auto-sim customization, just pure fun. Let’s hope the game won’t stop for another delay.
Dusty Raging Fist
Another return to the days of pure, simple fun is Dusty Raging Fist, a cartoony beat-’em-up with lots of guns, swords, and hyper air combos. Keep your bare knuckles ready for the final fight.
Freedom Planet
Anyone who saw just a little bit of Freedom Planet’s gameplay knows it’s not just a Sonic-inspired action game. Surprisingly enough, Freedom Planet is more of a love letter to the legendary action game team simply known as Treasure. With both Sonic and Treasure not doing very well lately, perhaps this one will remind people of the better days.
Are you looking forward to any of these upcoming eShop games? Let us know which ones you’re waiting for in the comments!
I’m excited for a number of these. Been following Fast Racing Neo’s development since before the launch of Wii U so it will hopefully deliver on the F-Zero Front. It certainly looks the part. The publisher Shin’en has worked almost exclusively with Nitendo platforms. Maybe depending on how this game turns out they could have a go with the iconic franchise itself?
Others I’m looking forward to are: Shovel Knight DLC, Gunman Clive, and the hopefully soon to be released Octodad
Great list. Will definitely be picking up a few of these. Thanks for mentioning the mindbenders of innovation and intensity, Treasure. They deserve any and all the praise they get.
I’m not sure how this didn’t dawn on me before, but I just realized that Fast Racing Neo is F-Zero GX meets Ikaruga.
…as if I didn’t want the game enough already. :^)
I wonder what other GameCube titles could be combined to great effect? Metroid Prime and Mario Strikers? Oh, ouch… too soon.
