Welcome back to another edition of Week: End Game: On! What games are the Dojo staffers playing this weekend? Read on to find out!

Well, Mario Kart 8 is just a given, of course. The game looks freaking stunning and the demo has me all hyped up. Let’s focus on other stuff, though, just for variety’s sake! I’m currently having a ton of fun with Klonoa: Empire of Dreams on the Wii U Virtual Console. I think the GBA iterations of Klonoa are massively underappreciated. They’re pretty, they play well, what more could a person want?! I’m also spending some time on making ore-infused furniture in New Leaf. It’s interesting seeing which ore works with a given piece of furniture, and the texture looks amazing once it’s done.

Loathe though I am to admit it, my Vita is getting some time to shine with the Sly Cooper Collection. Those games are just so fun. They’re nowhere near as polished as a 3D Mario, but they’re solid games. I wish Sony would hurry up and announce a new Sly for PS4; with the raw horsepower of that system, I can only imagine how gorgeous a new installment would look. I’m also giving Rayman 2 a peek on PSOne. Ubisoft is doing a huge Rayman sale on PSN, and I got Rayman 1 and 2 for less than $4!

Noooo! Because I ordered Mario Kart 8 online, I won’t be getting it until next week! Looks like I’ll have to just sit here and twiddle my thumbs until it arrives.

In the meantime, I’ll be playing Swords & Soldiers on Wii U. I missed out on the original on Wii, so this is the first time I’ve ever played this game. Not only is the RTS gameplay solid, but it also has a hilarious storyline. I spent a good chunk of the game trying to help vikings make the ultimate BBQ sauce, which is just as ridiculous as it sounds.

I’ve also been playing Bit Boy!! Arcade, which is a 3DS eShop game that plays like an expansive version of Pac-Man. I won’t say too much about it just yet though, as I plan on reviewing it in the near future. Be on the lookout for it when it’s done!

The karting will be strong with me this weekend. As soon as I got Mario Kart 8, I took it home and my friend and I played through and won all 8 cups in the Grand Prix! After that, we took to the great and vast expanse of the Internet to test our skills. My buddy did quite well, and has already racked up over 100 points on his profile. Me, well, I didn’t do so hot… At least my score is still over 1,000, which is where you start out. I’ve forgotten how frustrating Mario Kart can be a lot of the time. Here you are, racing away and not making any mistakes, when suddenly you get caught up in an onslaught of shells and find yourself back three places within 15 seconds. It’s maddening! And not always the good kind! Or perhaps I’m just having poor luck.

Anyways, I plan to spend the weekend sharpening up and finding the best possible character and vehicle combinations I can. The addition of the Koopalings and the Miiverse stickers have encouraged me to branch out from my usual karting habits. Honestly, 99 percent of all of my Mario Kart experiences over the past seven games have been driven solely by Yoshi. He’s just my go-to dinosaur for spin-off games!

So, I’ll see you all out there on the tracks later on, yes? By the way, the Electrodome track rocks.

Just like the rest of the Nintendo gaming community, I’m currently living the dream that is Mario Kart 8. Unfortunately, playing online turned out to be quite a problem on the day of release, but now everything works just fine. It’s been a while since I experienced the pleasure of hitting someone with a blue shell just before the finish line. Feels good, man.

Other than that, I’m also getting through two equally fantastic games: Transistor and Drakengard 3. Both have fun and deep combat systems, very interesting stories, and excellent soundtracks. And they both feature female protagonists, which you don’t see very often in games.

In an attempt to try and actually finish all of my work for next week, I’ve made the decision to hold off on Mario Kart 8 for a week. Suffice to say, I am pretty jealous of everyone with it!

So because of that, I will be playing nothing this weekend. *sigh* Next weekend will be a whole other story for me and Toad, though…

Happy racing to all of you who did pick it up!

What will you be playing this weekend? Will you be racing through Mario Kart 8 like the rest of the staff, or will you be spending time with a different title? Let us know in the comments!
