With most Nintendo fans buzzing over Mario Kart 8 this month, we’re dedicating this week’s Track of the Week to one of the game’s newest pieces of music. Mario Kart 8 has plenty of wonderful tracks to choose from, but the game starts off with a wonderful new song from all-star composer Koji Kondo. Our pick this week comes from the game’s title screen, and it’s easily one of the catchiest and most memorable tracks in the history of the franchise. Or any Nintendo franchise, for that matter. Since many of you may have been too eager to play the game to actually sit and listen to this song in its entirety, we’ve selected it as this week’s pick.

Koji Kondo’s recent works have introduced a jazz/rock-influence that has really complemented Nintendo’s recent games well. One only needs to take a listen to the wonderful soundtracks to Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 to find plenty of strong examples. The use of guitar and horns in his musical selections really make them standout from other games. The result is an aural treat unlike anything else available in gaming.

Are you playing Mario Kart 8 yet? What are some of your favorite tracks to race to? As always, let us know in the comments below!
