As we look forward to rest of 2014, we begin by highlighting a track from Bravely Default for 3DS, which has come out everywhere except for North America. So, while everyone else is enjoying a portable journey of high fantasy that hearkens back to the RPGs of Square Enix’s heyday, I’m stuck here just repeating the demo and listening to snippets from the OST.

This track of the week is called “The Land of Light and Shadow,” which appears while exploring the world map in Bravely Default. This theme heats up your heart for exploration! Around the 48 second mark, I get major flashbacks to Final Fantasy themes and Nobuo Uematsu as well. While Uematsu isn’t Square Enix’s main composer anymore, it seems his work has influenced the other composers in the RPG world. Revo, who comes from a “fantasy band” called Sound Horizon, composed Bravely Default‘s soundtrack. You might also recognize his work doing the opening themes for the Attack on Titan anime series!

Thankfully, the entirety of the gaming world will have its hands on Bravely Default by early February, and we can all listen to its music. Are there any soundtracks from other upcoming games anyone is looking forward to? The Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze soundtrack by David Wise is sure to be a hit!
