5) Water Temple

Appeared in: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64)

The bane of many a Zelda fan’s existence, the Water Temple of Ocarina of Time is easily one of the most perplexing dungeons in series history. Like the Swamp Palace, the central mechanic of the dungeon revolved around raising and lowering the water level. In Ocarina, however, a huge part of the challenge was centered on investigating every single room and corner in order to retrieve all the keys. It could be very difficult at times, but mastery of this dungeon felt like the ultimate feather in a Zelda player’s cap. Throw in the surreal encounter with Dark Link, and the Water Temple is a real gem.
