Top Ten: Super Mario Stages

Mario’s top ten stages are better than most entire games. Come see which one is the greatest!

3) Special World – Outrageous (Super Mario World)

Like, it was the nineties, dude, and the hyper secret batch of stages in the Special World were all given, like, totally awesome names to let the kids know that Mario was still wickedly cool. Sadly, the toughest of tough guys was more than likely not ready for the onslaught of Bullet Bills found in the aptly-named Outrageous stage. This stage… this stage has broken many a player. Bullet Bills are flying for the duration, all while a host of Wigglers, Goombas, and flames nip at Mario’s heels. The idea is to try and remain airborne by bouncing off of springs and enemies, but the absolute mania of avoiding what’s tantamount to a wall of death makes that a lofty proposition. Not bragging, not showing off, but I have over twenty years of Mario skills under my belt, and this level gives me trouble to this day. At least the Goombas aren’t giant!

Having only recently started Super Mario Galaxy 2, I don’t know how you can choose. Every level in this game feels so brilliant and original and purely entertaining… it’s literally a joy to play.
