9) Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix
Released: GameCube, 2005
Just like it was when the first daring and brilliant person decided to conjoin peanut butter and jelly between two pieces of bread, Konami and Nintendo experienced a flash of inspiration that compelled them to merge Dance Dance Revolution with Super Mario. The series’ signature directional input, rhythm-based gameplay was on full display in Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, which featured a bevy of tunes from the plumber’s various adventures. DDR games are always good fun, but the Mario pastiche pushed this installment to the top. It’s also the first time Waluigi was ever given a turn as the main antagonist in a game!
I don’t really like music games… but have to admit this list has a lot of quality software on it.
My only complaints:
* Donkey Konga and Mario DDR were great ideas but Nintendo needed more remixed NES tracks and fewer public domain songs thrown into the mix
* Rock Band 2 should be replaced by The Beatles Rock Band (not because Rock Band 2 is bad, but because The Beatles version is just that awesome)
;)
