8) Dementium 2
Play it on: Nintendo DS
Renegade Kid has the honor of having produced two excellent games on this list (more on the other in a bit), with this title having the distinction of being home to some truly creepy, gross enemies. In Dementium 2, the player is cast as an amnesiac who awakens in the confines of the Bright Dawn Treatment Center. Alone and confused, the player makes their way through the halls, encountering twitching, howling monsters with little more than knives and a few guns with limited ammo. Dementium 2 is a straightforward, full-on horror game that relishes in its gore and creepiness.
Dementium 2 is played from a first-person perspective, which puts the player right face-to-face with every monster lurking through the halls. There are some good scares in this game, as the creature designs are really over the top and fairly varied. Gunplay is solid, too, with a decent selection of weapons to choose from that are fun to use. Smartly, Renegade Kid chose to keep ammunition on the scarce side, which keeps the player’s tension running high as they decide whether or not to let loose blasting enemies or save their rounds for something bigger and badder. As it stands, Dementium 2 is a nice, traditionally scary Halloween game.
Moon is my favorite DS game. Great recommendation.
Great list of games!
Dead Space: Extraction (Wii) was my October “scary game” of choice… and it succeeded in totally creeping me out more than once. Another great title for Nintendo horror fans to check out, even if Halloween has already gone by.
