1. GoldenEye 007

Our Number One pick for the console also happens to be the game that would likely prove the most difficult to get on the system. Licensed games always prove to be the biggest hurdle for re-releases: there’s often far too much red tape involved to make it worthwhile. But while there have been other well-regarded licensed games before, GoldenEye 007 simply might be the biggest, most beloved licensed game ever made. Twenty years after its release, gamers still drag out the Nintendo 64 with four controllers to play GoldenEye. As much as games like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Party played a part in making the system a true party machine, nothing touched the love players had, and still have, for GoldenEye. It defined the genre on consoles, and, more than 20 years after its release, it’s still influencing developers. There have been pretenders and remakes, but none have ever helped truly fill-the-void. While the potential hurdles are many, GoldenEye would help move a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition in a way that no other game possibly could. For Nintendo, it should be top priority.
