4. Overworld Theme

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

Spirit Tracks may not have got a whole lot of love when it was released back in 2009, but this Overworld Theme is my one of my all-time favourites. I loved listening to this as I rode the rails through New Hyrule, and it made each journey that much sweeter. With its catchy pan pipe melody and syncopated strings coming through underneath, it takes the best parts of Dragon Roost Island and The Great Sea and adds a barrelling banjo and guitar-style accompaniment to make it one unified theme of steam-powered greatness.

That said, it was actually a pretty close call between this theme, Train Training (the tune accompanying your very first train ride in Spirit Tracks) and the Overworld Theme 2 for this spot– I love Train Training’s jaunty strings and the clockwork nature of the alternate Overworld’s bassline!– but ultimately there’s just something about this track that makes me smile. It’s upbeat, it’s cheerful, it makes you feel like you’re going somewhere, and it’s just the perfect aural travelling companion.

Super daring to put Fi’s theme as #1! I totally agree though, that song is fantastic in more ways than one! On top of being a great tune, it’s very emotional and really connects you to Fi as a character…. makes me want to play Skyward Sword again!

Also, the lack of Minish Cap songs in this list is criminal! ;)
