A celebration of the NES... |
NES 20
Birthdays like this don't come every year. Two decades ago, the video game market might have stayed dead in 1985 and none of us would be here on a video game website. Yet Nintendo, known for its staunch conservatism, took a risky gamble back then: it decided to release a video game system in the wake of home video gaming's death throes. Pop culture and entertainment haven't been the same since. Would we have been as likely to wear game controllers on belt buckles today? Would be seeing movie after movie based on video game licenses? Would we have a vast catalog of 2 minute video game ditties burnt into our minds? Perhaps not. Therefore, we take a look back at the NES and how it shaped both Nintendo and us.
