AC Adapter
Batteries are expensive to buy and I am not a battery-stealing senior so the only alternative for me was to buy the GBA AC power adapter. I’m a cheap bastard so I would never waste my money on power from a battery when I can get it for free from a hole in the wall. They say that there is whole other world past that hole but I would not recommend going there unless you want to see the light as well (I’m not talking about a worm light even though worms live in holes). The device is supposed to be $24.99 US and that means it should be about $37.50 Canadian. Fortunately, the price in Canada is advertised at about $24-27 as well so Americans are getting screwed by Nintendo. Either that or Nintendo of Canada felt sorry for their fellow poor Canadians and decided to cut them some slack. Fortunately for me, the friendly staff at Super Store did an error and only charged me $14 Canadian (basically free in America)...woo hoo! I bought the product because it had the Nintendo seal of quality on it but quality does not really matter for AC adapters. I would have kept on using my Performance GB/GBC AC adapter but Nintendo decided to not have a power input on the GBA. Always look for the Official Nintendo Seal of QualityTM when buying games and accessories to ensure this product has met Nintendo’s standards for excellence in workmanship, reliability, entertainment value and complete compatibility. Also look for the high price of a Nintendo peripheral. Nintendo went around of the problem of a lack of a power input by creating a battery cover that has input for the power. I suppose Nintendo saved 50 cents on every GBA by removing that feature because it is cheaper to make a few people pay for an AC power slot on a peripheral then 24 million GBAs in one year. So remove the batteries on the GBA and the cover and snap on the AC adapter to be ready for free game playing. The AC adapter does not come in indigo, arctic or polluted glacier so do not expect colors to match. Instead, the adapter is a dark gray but it is on the back so it will not bother you during gameplay unless you let it eat away at you, knowing that your GBA is not one color, knowing that all your friends will make fun of you if they see the GBA with a gray piece on it. The second piece of the adapter is the plug and 6’10” of wire. To save packing space and make the product that much cooler, the plug folds into the adapter.
The Nintendo-made AC adapter appears to be a solid product but if you want to save money, just buy a $7 adapter from some other company. The product might not be Nintendo, but you’ll have 17 more dollars in your pocket. Get yourself an AC adapter and don’t give those battery fat cats any more of your hard earned dollar.
