Spawned from the newest Pixar hit, The Incredibles provides you with the chance to be a superhero and save the day. With four different characters to control, action packed gameplay, and Pixar's own brand of great humor, it has the makings of a "super" game. However, a tricky and unresponsive control scheme may pull it under. Can The Incredibles stand up to its "incredible" title? visuals The game looks beautiful, doing an excellent job of portraying the on-screen characters. The environments are well detailed and add great atmosphere. Effects such as a building set ablaze or lush tropical foliage is all well done. Character models look good, each of the family members looking like their movie counterparts. The cinematic cut scenes look nice, providing some movie tid-bits. audio The dialog from the characters is very humorous and well acted out. The music is put together good and helps add to the heroic drama. It has a very 60's action/drama mood to the tunes. The majority of the movie cast even lends their vocal talents to the game. The most notable appearance is the voice of Samuel L. Jackson, who takes the part of the narrator, guiding you along your adventure. It has a very 60's action/drama mood to the tunes. gameplay You're given a variety of stages to complete, each with a different member of the Incredible family. With Mr. Incredible you'll be able to perform amazing feats of strength tossing huge objects with ease. You'll spend most of your time punching out foes and chucking things at them, as well as moving immense obstacles to clear the way. With ElastiGirl (Mrs. Incredible), you can stretch your limbs out like rubber to punch enemies from afar and grasp onto objects above in order to swing your way through the areas. Next is their daughter Violet whose levels are primarily stealth involved. You'll be turning invisible and using your protective force field to sneak your way around enemies, and even in one instance join forces with your younger brother Dash to perform a duel incredible effect. Dash is gifted with blazing speed which you'll use in his racing levels. This is spent primarily beating the clock whilst dodging foes and scenery. Having four characters, each with unique abilities offers some great challenges, and the tough boss battles will test your hero skills. Each level is tailored to the character you're playing as and offers some variety to your typical platformer. However, even with the beautiful visuals and awesome super powers, there's still one major flaw to the game: the controls. Often the clincher in whether you find yourself enjoying a game, a bad control system can ruin the fun. Mr. Incredible's punch often leaves him open to enemy assault as his whole body thrusts forward, exposing his sides and back as he recovers from his own attack. Rolling, as well, can be difficult to time correctly and perform well. The stages with Dash were very frustrating in that you can't stop, so once you ran into an object you'd have to restart the level. For a person with poor short term memory, this would be agony. Violet's missions were also tricky considering her powers didn't last that long, wiping out her power meter constantly. It's hard to be stealthy when everyone can see you. ElastiGirl was tough in that she couldn't be on the move to grab someone and her running kicks were often unresponsive. Targeting in general is unresponsive for all the characters as you'll find yourself having difficulty locking onto an opponent or an object. Thankfully health and power ups are frequent, because you'll need them. You'll get some added goodies for your gaming efforts, though. Unlockable content such as movie clips and art are available. multiplayer overall Though the game has some control problems, it does offer some fun challenges. The variety of powers you can control and the humorous and likable characters can really bring out the "hero" in you. It offers more than your typical platformer and is worth a look, though it may be too tough for younger gamers to really enjoy. If you older folks enjoyed the movie, you might get a kick out of the game.
