NFL Quarterback Club 98
Football fans everywhere have been waiting for a football title ever since the N64 has been release. That day is now here and I must say that I am satisfied and the wait was completely worth it. When I first had a SNES, I had every football title ever released but they never appealed to me. I could never get myself through a whole game in such games as the ones for SNES simply because I got bored while playing. QBC is the only official football game this year for the 97-98 season which makes the game even more the $60 that it will cost you. NFL QB Club is a nice well done title that I and many others have been waiting for, for a long, long, long time.
visuals
Most impressive. Many thought that high resolution could not be done and boy were they wrong. QBC 98 has the nicest graphics that I have ever seen. A lot of people have complained about choppy animation in the game but that is something that even now is still virtually unnoticeable to me. The graphics are truly amazing but, not perfect. Some of the character's heads are deformed and all the faces are exactly alike when you zoom in on them with the camera but you cant notice it that much with a helmet over their heads. The crowd looks like a wall that somebody shot in bond with paintball mode on, just a bunch of spots everywhere in the stands. More detail should have been put in but I guess it was not possible to do so with high-res taking up all the space.
audio
Not much music to this game, QBC has mainly sound effects and chants to it. The opening music is very well done in my opinion. The sound effects are good also but I some of the sounds are screwed up. I doubt when the players are running in an actual football game that they make the "uh-uh" sounds like they make in the game. Marv Albert got released along with QBC and I must say that he did a crap job with the play by play for the most part. "Number 34 passes to number 59", he says. What is that? I mean, they have names so why not use them? I was told also that the reason why is because of cart limitation. He does a decent job pretty much so but I get tired of hear "wow, that was a punishing tackle" over and over.
gameplay
The controls are a little tough at first but after you get used to them, you will have no trouble at all with controlling. There are tons of options to choose from in this title such as 50 + simulations, some made up and some are from actual games in history. This is quite fun when bored and just wanting to play a few short games. Many people will buy a game because of multi-player. If you are looking for 4 player action, do not get this game. 4 player is a total bore in QBC mainly because of ball hogs. There would normally be 2 people on he same team but you can change it to things like 3 vs 1 or 4 vs cpu 2 vs. cpu, etc. Players 1 and 3 are the quarterbacks and the other 2 players are just defense and receivers. The person who is the QB will get to anything he/she wants also such as switch to a receiver after he/she has thrown the ball. Any of the players can choose the plays which is a major bitch for the other player because they cant see the play and it's not like you can announce it or the other team will hear you so the person who does not choose the plays basically does not have any idea what to do. I prefer 1 vs. cpu or 1 vs. 1 more than multi-player. The AI is pretty much well done but a lot of people I know complain and say it is too easy. I put it on the hardest skill level and played a simulation game with Jaguars vs. Panthers and I went into overtime 4 times before I finally got close enough to kick a field goal and won. The weather options will affect how you play just as so if playing an actual football game. There are a bunch of options to choose from such as rain, snow, cold, hot, wind, and normal conditions. Snow will make you slip as will rain and may also cause quite a bit of fumbles and missed catches, not to mention a few injuries. Cold and hot dont really affect player's ability as far as I can tell but it's neat to see the player's breath in the cold and wind, of course will affect the direction of the ball, all these things affect player's ability and will add to the realism of the game. QBC was said to maybe have a slowdown in it because high res uses so much of the space. Now, there is some slight slowdown but not enough as to where it is noticeable, these are people we are talking about, not Extreme G racers, they cant run down a field at 200 mph. Frame rate is good and I am not complaining, it runs at a good, solid 30fps, I would say. NFL QBC bares the NFL licenses Madden does not have, this affected many and of course my decision to buy the game. All the NFL teams are in the game including the Baltimore Ravens. Some pictures of the players are outdated or of a player with a different team uniform on and some dont even have pictures because Acclaim obviously couldnt get pictures in time. The stadiums are included along with the teams and are perfectly matched right down to the last seat. All in all, QBC has the best gameplay I have seen in an N64 football title.

overall
It seems as though Acclaim is 3 for 3. Hopefully we will see more great games by Acclaim and even a sequel or college football game based on QB Club. Quarterback Club is a very solid title for the Nintendo 64. If you are looking for graphics, gameplay, and realism all rolled into one title, get this game. I am truly hooked on this game and recommend it to anyone who loves football. Hell, even if you dont like football, get this game. It is really worth it. 4 player isnt great but it makes no difference to me. Everything on this game is well done except for a few things and those few things are minor. This is a great game. Buy it.
