Blast Corps

Originally, I was going to write a lengthy review of this game, because there is so much to write about. But, after thinking about it, I'd rather take less time to write this, and more time to play Blast Corps!

visuals

The levels are graphically unbelievable, with fantastic lighting, and great explosion effects. Additionally, there are instant replays which have incredible camera angles.

audio

The main thing I appreciated with Blast Corps was the sound. The music is the best (next to KI Gold) Nintendo 64 music yet. The techno- country music on the first level is cool, and the beats on the level wrapup screen is very Amiga-esque (for those who you who remember!) Also, there are tons and tons of voice samples, which are crystal-clear, I might add.

gameplay

Blast Corps' premise is original, that's for sure. There's a nuclear transport (two warheads on wheels) which is out of control, and you must clear a path so it can reach its' destination without destroying the planet. I was thinking, why can't we just shoot the transport's tires? But, then I figured it out - there wouldn't be a game!

To make a long story short; you have control of 8 different main "destruction" vehicles, PLUS 3 cars (one which is a replica of Bo and Luke Duke's car - YEE-HAH!), a train(!) and you can even control a crane! Talk about a varied selection, huh?!

Each vehicle has their own specific destruction methods and strategy. For example, RamDozer, a bulldozer, can level buildings and other things by just ramming them. Backlash, a dump truck, requires a bit of skill because its' best destruction method is skidding into things. Now, you may be asking, if RamDozer "takes out" things so easily, why use any others? You don't have a choice! Each level gives you specific vehicles, which you must use strategically to clear the level.

overall

Overall, this is the most original game idea to come along since Tetris, and with the fantastic graphics, amazing sound, and addictive gameplay, Blast Corps is a must-have! I tried hard to find some negative points, and I really couldn't think of any.

Between the save functions, thirteen different vehicles, incredible sound, and most of all, the incredible gameplay, Blast Corps a very high 9.0. But, enough of this review. Go out and buy Blast Corps and prepare to have lots of time on your hands. Till next time, I'm outta here -I've got a train to catch.

final score 9.0/10
