Battalion Wars 2

Not quite a sequel to Advance Wars but bearing enough similarity to not somehow be considered a spin-off, the original Battalion Wars, while securing a small cult audience, never really took off as it maybe should have. With the Wii-bound sequel, Battalion Wars 2, Nintendo, along with developer Kuju Entertainment, hope to gain some new fans.

media

impressions

Nixing the tactical turn based combat that made the Advance Wars series such a hit, Battalion Wars 2 favors an action oriented interface, punctuated by heavy strategy and vehicular combat segments. Gameplay is reportedly similar to the Gamecube version of the game, though a graphical overhaul and larger levels add new luster to the game. Most noteworthy is the integration of Wii control elements: players now use the nunchuk and analog stick to control their character. Nintendo and Kuju Entertainment also sweeten the deal with online multiplayer. The finished game will boast several modes including Assault, Skirmish and Co-op.

word on the street

Certainly not the most heavily anticipated of Wii titles, BW 2 still has quite a few pairs of eyes on it. Certainly fans of the original game want to see it brought into the limelight and given a fair shake (figuratively and literally, thanks to the Wii Remote).

press release notes

Giving Gamers Total Control:: Players drive tanks, command ships, pilot planes and direct their troops into the heart of the action in the return of the popular tactical action game for Wii.

Online Multiplayer: The battle wages online in three modes: Assault, Skirmish and Co-op. Fight with or against others in land, sea and air combat.

Precision Fighting: Wii Remote controller provides intuitive, precise control to bring out the action of this tactical thrill-fest. The tactical depth, replay value and online game play makes this a must-have game.

overall

With a level of quality meeting (if not exceeding) the series’ last installment, Battalion Wars 2’s biggest battle is for a larger audience.
