Nintendo has reached back into its past to bring us an update of a franchise that started over 20 years ago. Excite Truck follows in the footsteps of Excitebike for NES and Excitebike 64 for N64. While Excite Truck inherits some familiar gameplay elements from its predecessors, it also introduces some all new experiences. impressions The graphics in Excite Truck are very GameCube-esque (Hey, if Nintendo can invent words, then why can’t Wii?). The textures of the landscape look nice, the draw distance is impressive and the blur effect when using a boost look great. But, just as Nintendo promised, this is no major leap above current generation graphics. Excite Truck is controlled with the Wii remote minus the nunchuck attachment. Essentially, you hold the remote on its side like an NES controller and tilt the controller like a steering wheel to control the truck. The 1 button is used for braking, the 2 button for acceleration and any direction pressed on the d-pad will activate a turbo boost. As you race through the off-road tracks you’ll come across questions marks floating on the path. Drive through one of these question marks and immediately what once was a little bump in the road ahead will dynamically grow into a massive jump. Once airborne off a jump you’ll have to tilt and twist the controller to adjust your truck for the perfect four tire landing. Perform a perfect landing and you’ll receive a boost. Wii owners looking for a great party game will have yet another excellent title to add to their most wanted lists. word on the street Nothing was known about this title until it was first announced at Nintendo’s E3 2006 press conference; but by the end of the week, Excite Truck received plenty of buzz. Excite Truck even went on to win the title of "Best Racing Game of E3 2006" from the Game Critics Awards. press release notes In the grand racing tradition of Excitebike, get ready for a big-air experience like no other as players rocket their trucks across dynamically changing terrain. Remember tilting your arms while playing Excitebike to try to make your character land a huge jump? Well, that experience is finally a reality with Excite Truck, a wild, off-road race only possible on Nintendo's Wii console. Tilt the Wii Remote right and left like a steering wheel to steer. Once the truck goes airborne, tilt the Wii Remote every which way to line up perfect landings for turbo boosts. overall |
