Madden NFL 2006

It's unclear how exclusive or special is EA's license with the NFL, but with NFL touted in the title they're obviously appealing to die hard fans. Depending on how committed sports fan gamers are to the NFL this may or may not be a sticking point.

impressions

Each iteration of EA's sports series seems to progress more in realism. Madden NFL 2006 for GC looks to continue this trend by sporting different lighting conditions (sunlight or floodlight) depending on stadium and time of day. Details range from the words Wilson and NFL on the ball itself to player shadows, sideline stand-ins, and stadium fans. One of the biggest updates being touted is to the passing system where, for instance, there is now a "field of vision" for the QB outside of which it's realistically more difficult to complete a pass. But as realistic as EA can make these games, it's also nice to see deviations that explore possibilities like behind-the-ball camera angles not possible in the real world.

word on the street

With a new Madden coming out for both GC and DS, which one to check out will depend on whether fans favor on the go portability or the comfort of your couch at home.

press release notes

For the first time in 10 years, the Madden NFL Football franchise has revolutionized its passing game-giving Madden NFL 06 the most groundbreaking and innovative offensive arsenal ever created. The new QB Vision Control lets you scan the field, look off defenders, and make perfect throws within your quarterback's unique field of vision. overall

EA's dedication to the sports genre is relentless. With Madden NFL 2006 they seem to be continuing the trend towards more realistic visuals while taking the necessary risks to change some gameplay mechanics. In both cases EA looks to be striving to improve its game with Madden NFL 2006 for GC.
