Hands-on Impressions
By Nathan Heckel

The graphic prowess of the latest Soul Calibur game has vastly upstaged its Dreamcast predecessor; in-game visuals even rival the pre-rendered FMV intro movie! Each stage is masterfully and intricately detailed in a way that even puts Eternal Darkness to shame. Of the potentially 20 available characters 15 were playable:

  • Mitsurugi
  • Link
  • Necrid
  • Taki
  • Talim
  • Cassandra
  • Yunsung
  • Raphael
  • Kilik
  • Xianghua
  • Maxi
  • Nightmare
  • Ivy
  • Astaroth
  • Voldo

Control, like in the first Soul Calibur, is tight and responsive, yielding a wide range of realistically animated and stunning attacks. This could quite possibly turn out to be one of the greatest fighting games of all time!

From The Horse's Mouth
