Tactics Ogre Gaiden: The Knight of Lodis

Starring

"They think I'm an Ogre do they? Why I ought to club them and eat their bones!"

-Mr.Burns*

The Knight of Lodis, who is just another pretty boy who wields a big sword. Also, there should be some evil enemy in there who may or may not want to destroy the world. Don't forget the love interest too.

Concept

Well, so far the concept does not seem to be about Ogres trying to use tactics. I wept in tears for hours.

Quest is continuing its Ogre Battle series on the Game Boy Advance. If you have no idea what Tactics Ogre Gaiden is, try playing Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber for the N64 and you will have an idea.

The word Gaiden in the title refers to a side-story, which is similar to what the latest 3D Zelda was before it was renamed to Zelda: Majora's Mask. Tactics Ogre Gaiden may only be a bit of an upgrade to the last Tactics Ogre game. Besides, the GBA is supposed to be the machine to port SNES games to and Tactics Ogre was an SNES game.

Info

A tactics game is different then an RPG game in the sense of player position. In an RPG, the player trades blows with the CPU whether it is in real-time or turn-based. In tactics, the player must move around his characters in order to get close enough to attack. Tactics Ogre Gaiden also takes the terrain into account because factors like the height of the ground will effect attacks compared to where the enemy is.Also, don't expect some battle scene to break out because the fighting takes place in the same maps as wandering around does.

The game will feature evolving player classes that allow a character to change as it gains experience. The character can have different attitudes depending on the methods to reach the next player class. For instance, if the character gains experience dishonorably (beating up the weak, ripping off mattress tags, etc.) then the character will be dark and evil.

Graphically the game is average and nothing spectacular. The game is based on an isometric tile system like Star Craft except that the tiles are very obvious to make it easier for moving characters around in battle. The characters are not proportional meaning that they have very big heads compared to their bodies but that's nothing new for an RPG-esque game.

The Buzz

So far Tactics Ogre Gaiden has not been officially announced to be released in North America but every other Ogre game has (those fat cats, always wanting more). Therefore the chance of this game appearing in good quality, anti-all-your-base English should be good. As we know, a system can suffer without RPGs (or Pokemon) and even if it is a tactics game, it should be a Gameboy game that has depth and considerable length to keep the gamer in you satisfied.

*Game does not star Mr.Burns.
