Star Trek: Conquest Q&A Joshua Johnston 8/11/2007, 11:20pm Eastern Time An unofficial Bethesda fan blog recently scored an interview with Frank Arnot, lead designer for the upcoming Wii and PS2 title Star Trek: Conquest. According to Arnot, the game will be set in the Next Generation era and will take place in a time when “all the major races are at war.” Players will be able to take control of one of six groups -- Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion, Breen -- but will also encounter the Borg, Ferengi, Orion, and Xindi along the way. Each race will have unique abilities, including particular technology trees and special weapons. Conquest will involve two types of gamplay -- a turn-based strategy component and an arcade combat component. During the turn-based section, a player will be able to commission admirals, move fleets (which can contain up to seven ships of various classes), and construct bases (including starbases, mining facilities, and research stations). The arcade component is not required; combat between fleets can be resolved automatically instead should the player prefer. Arnot also spilled a few other details worth noting. Both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck will be used in the game. In addition to the main campaign, there will be custom campaigns and skirmish modes available. Don’t expect any multiplayer, however. Conquest will be a strictly single-player affair. Given the generally mediocre showing of previous Bethesda Trek efforts (the DS's Star Trek: Tactical Assault notwithstanding), we can only hope that this title turns out well. Star Trek: Conquest hits the Wii and PS2 this holiday season.
