Nintendo, Microsoft Sued Over Controllers
Aaron Roberts 8/4/2006, 11:15am Eastern Time

UK-based website The Inquirer is reporting that a Texas-based company is suing Nintendo over patent infringement.

A case in Texas district court, started by Anascape, Ltd., concerns no less than eleven alleged patent violations which have supposedly been made by both Nintendo and Xbox-maker Microsoft with their current controllers. Among the patents listed in the suit are "Game Controller With Analog Pressure Sensor" and "3D Controller With Vibration."

Unsurprisingly, Anascape has asked for substantial punitive damages in the lawsuit. It seems somewhat surprising that only Microsoft and Nintendo were named in the suit, even though Sony and pretty much every other company who makes a game controller use very similar blueprints. Time will tell if the suit is legitimate or not.
