Last week we reported on EA's announcement of the cover athlete for NHL 07, and, more importantly, the absence of GameCube under the listed release platforms. Nintendojo contacted EA to ensure this platform list was final, and it is.

"You are correct," said Electronic Arts publicist Jen Riley, responding to our inquiry. "[There will be] no Nintendo platforms for NHL 07."

NHLPA Hockey 93, the second game in EA's long running hockey franchise, was the first to appear on a Nintendo platform when it released on Super Nintendo. The series briefly left Nintendo's lineup after NHL 99's release on Nintendo 64. The series returned with NHL 2003 for GameCube, and the franchise has seen a GameCube version ever since.

NHL 2K7, the next version of the 2K Sports hockey franchise, is not currently scheduled for release on GameCube either, meaning it is likely that no new hockey game will be released for Nintendo's current home console. Riley noted that while NHL 07 is absent from Nintendo's lineup, EA is continuing to support Nintendo's systems.

"Many of our other games are continuing to support DS," said Riley, "and we hope to be on Wii in the future."
