Poll: Seeing Double Yet?

While Zelda still dominates the news, we wonder how you feel about 3DS.

While everyone (including us at Nintendojo) have been on the Zelda bandwagon recently, Nintendo’s slow-starting 3DS also appears to be picking up speed. Not only did the handheld underdog shift 250,000 units in the US last month but the console is on track to eclipse the first year sales of the success story that was the Nintendo DS. Furthermore, with big hitter titles such as Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Resident Evil: Revelations finally coming to market, it seems that Nintendo may have finally turned their fortunes around with the 3DS.

Of course, being seasoned industry analysts, we would never be so bludgeoningly optimistic about the fate of Nintendo’s much-troubled console so this week we’re cutting out the middle man and asking Nintendo’s audience (you) what they think about the 3DS. Were you an early adopter? Are you on the cusp of picking up the console or are you still 3DS-sceptic? What do you think of the looming threat of Vita and a potential re-design that incorporates a second circle pad?

Once you’ve voted in the poll, be sure to share your thoughts in the comments below! Do you think 3DS will surpass the first year sales of DS? Is Vita going to finally knock Nintendo from their portable pedastool? We’re dying to hear what you think, go on…

I said I don’t play it much, although it’s generally been in spurts. When I first got it, I used it to play Pokemon Black, whose online features wouldn’t have worked on my DS Lite thanks to that system’s lack of WPA compatibility.

Then when Ocarina 3D came out, I played that for a good 40 hours or so.

Played a few other DS games on the 3DS between then and last week, and have been entirely obsessed with Super Mario 3D Land since I picked it up one week ago. And I’ll be getting Mario Kart 7 soon.

So overall I’ve been using it a lot but only two of those games were actually for 3DS. I guess I also played a bunch of 3D Classics: Excitebike and the NES Ambassador games.

Where the heck are my GBA titles, Nintendo!?

Regardless of how you feel about 3D, it’s still the next gen of DS console. It’s my PDA. Don’t leave home without it. Not to mention, with Wii quality graphics, eShop (shopping meets Nintendo Channel), Miis, and Netflix, it’s like Wii in your pocket…

    Okay, forget I said that…

Hmm – it isn’t my PDA. It doesn’t have anything like the functionality of my iPod Touch (which IS my PDA). But as a games machine I love it. And as xeacons says it IS the next gen of GB/DS and all my best gaming experiences have been on Nintendo machines. I don’t expect that to change. As a PDA my 3DS is a poor substitute. But as a games machine my iPod touch is a poor substitute.

PS – I LOVE 3D. I can’t see why it hasn’t fired people’s imaginations more than it has. I have a feeling it will come into its own in a while.

Yeah…I got rid of my iPod. There just wasn’t much it was doing that my DSi (and eventually my 3DS) couldn’t do. Obviously, Safari’s a better web browser than Opera, but I didn’t need all those crappy apps and games, we eventually got Netflix, notebooks, and calendar. It may not be as convenient having to go to my computer for iTunes now, but they’re still the same songs. The only thing I really miss is Google Earth. But I’ll survive.

I do play mine all the time, but it has to be said that most of that time has been spent playing DS games… :/

On the other hand, my only DS is a DS Phat, so I think that’s a good enough excuse :)

I play mine all the time but as others have said, it’s mostly DS games and downloads. I only have three 3DS games, Pilot Wings which I only bought because I got a great deal on (played around 15 hours), Zelda: TOoT, which was really a mistake since I fully played this on N64, only played around 8 hours before losing interest, and Mario 3D Land which I just got.

I don’t think 3DS will ever compare to the DS in sales, and I don’t think Vita will outsell it either. The market has changed. There are way too many people content to play games on their phones that in the past bought handhelds.
